The Making of Vanessa
Introduction
Eyetronics has long been considered modeling specialists of the human form for 3D. Upon the news of the exclusive distribution deal with 24/7 Entertainment, a purveyor of vintage entertainment, we decided to explore the ways in which we could harness our specialized 3D scanning technology to bring new and innovative products to consumers. Thus, the idea of a highly detailed pinup statue was born. |
"Vanessa the Pinup" is just the first character that Eyetronics will introduce in the coming months. Our library includes characters from a multitude of other genres of classic films, such as western, film noir, science fiction, and many more. In more detail below, we hope to show you everything that went into the creation of Vanessa. |
The Origin
|
For inspiration, we turned to iconic images of famous pinups from the past. The images we liked most were from the artist Gil Elvgren, of which you see some examples here. |

The Face
Using our unique 3D scanning technology, we began the process of creating our pinup by first scanning a female model making a wide array of common facial expressions. The expressions you see above were just a fraction of all the expressions that we scanned.
The Body
In addition, we scanned the model in several different poses. This scanning process provides us with a realistic representation of the human anatomy. For this project, it was important to capture the minute details associated with how her muscles flexed and relaxed in each pose.

Using the scans of our female model as reference, we turned to our team of skilled digital sculpting artists to perfect our pinup. |
We selected the pose and details that we thought would best demonstrate our artists' capabilities. |
The Print & Paint
Once the final details were added, the model was sent to Morpheus Prototypes where it was printed in pieces and later assembled. |
The model was then handed over to Kat from Wak Toys, who skillfully painted the skin, hair and fabric with unbelievable realism. |
The Result
For our first character, Vanessa the Pinup, it was imperative that we left a lasting impression. From the level of detail in the photograph shown above, it's hard to believe Vanessa is a statue that stands at less than 16 inches tall.
